North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. in Grapevine, TX
North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. is committed to the welfare of basset hounds. Established in 1984, it initially functioned as a committee under The Basset Hound Club of Greater Fort Worth. In 1997, NTBHR was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in Texas, and in June 1998, it received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, which allows donations to be tax-deductible. The organization's Tax ID is 75-2706935. NTBHR is organized to achieve several key objectives: - Prevent cruelty to animals, specifically basset hounds. - Support animal welfare by locating and rescuing homeless, unwanted, or mistreated basset hounds. - Provide essential funding for medical care, spaying, and neutering of these dogs. - Place homeless, unwanted, or mistreated basset hounds into permanent, loving homes. While our primary focus is on the Fort Worth and Dallas areas, we also assist shelters throughout North Texas, from Abilene to Waco and Longview to the Oklahoma border. Funds are allocated to ensure the health of the basset hounds, including spaying or neutering and heartworm treatment. Occasionally, difficult decisions regarding euthanasia must be made due to severe health issues or aggressive behavior. Our dedicated rescue volunteers receive no compensation for their time and transportation expenses. NTBHR is grateful to have several veterinarians who offer excellent care at reduced rates. The fulfillment for rescue volunteers comes from knowing they provide basset hounds with a second chance, often evidenced by a wagging tail and a joyful lick. In the fiscal year 2012-2013, North Texas Basset Hound Rescue, an all-volunteer organization, successfully rescued and re-homed 85 basset hounds. Each rescued animal receives comprehensive medical care, including spaying/neutering, heartworm treatment, dental care, and microchipping. We also provide information on spay/neuter programs and participate in responsible pet ownership events to further our mission of rescuing basset hounds and serving the community. Additionally, NTBHR has established a Special Needs Fund to rehabilitate basset hounds that may not otherwise be adoptable due to illness, mistreatment, or injury. For the current year, our goals include expanding our volunteer base and foster care program to rescue more basset hounds and increasing fundraising efforts to cover rising veterinary costs.
