The Un-Shelter in Plymouth, MI

ABOUT US The Un-Shelter distinguishes itself from other local and regional animal rescues and shelters in several key ways. First, we focus on a limited number of adoptable animals, ensuring that we can provide a highly enriched environment, including home-like kennel spaces and outdoor play areas. Our adoption process prioritizes finding the best fit for both the animal and the adopter, taking into account energy levels and personality. This process begins with an initial conversation, progresses to several introductions with animals, includes counseling at the time of adoption to provide essential guidance, and offers ongoing support as needed. Community engagement is at the heart of our mission. We aspire to make our facility a central hub for humane education, pet-related activities for children and families, social events for pet owners, and connections between pet service providers and animal guardians. We aim to create an inclusive family atmosphere that encourages long-term relationships. Furthermore, we believe that community extends beyond our immediate space. We actively support other shelters and rescues in the region, striving to be a leader in proactive, evidence-based education and the implementation of best practices for staff and volunteers at shelters and rescues across the area and state.
