About this shelter
Rescue City in Brooklyn, NY
Our mission is to rescue dogs in urgent need while raising public awareness about animal cruelty and overpopulation. Each day, we save at-risk dogs from neglect, abuse, and euthanasia. We provide temporary foster homes and necessary medical care to prepare these loving animals for adoption. We do not operate a physical shelter; instead, all of our dogs are placed in caring foster homes throughout the city. After a straightforward adoption process, we connect our dogs with loving and responsible permanent homes. Every dog is fully vetted, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before the adoption is finalized. Our commitment to the dogs extends beyond adoption, as we emphasize the importance of responsible pet ownership and educate our fosters, adopters, and the community on how they can support dogs in need.

Adoption process
The adoption process consists of the following steps: Step One: Begin by completing and submitting an adoption application along with a non-refundable application fee of $10. Since all our dogs are in foster homes, we will arrange meet and greets only after receiving an approved application. Step Two: Our adoptions team will review your completed application. We will contact your references, landlord, and veterinarian if applicable. Step Three: If your application is approved, we will reach out to you for a phone interview or a virtual home visit. Step Four: You will have the opportunity to meet your potential new dog. Please note that all household members, including resident dogs, must be able to travel to New York City for this meeting. We currently approve adoptions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, with consideration for other nearby states on a case-by-case basis. Step Five: Finally, you will sign the adoption agreement and take your new family member home.
