Adoption Process
We do not offer same-day adoptions. To have an application approved, all pets currently living in the home must be up to date on their routine vaccinations. Additionally, we must receive approval from the landlord or confirm home ownership. Consent from all adults residing in the household is also required. Ideally, all household members should meet the animal prior to adoption; however, if this is not feasible, verbal consent will suffice. Once the application is approved, we require that any existing dogs in the household come to the shelter for a supervised interaction with the dog being adopted. The adoption fees are as follows: - Dogs under 6 months: $150 - Dogs 6 months and over: $125 - Cats under 6 months: $95 - Cats 6 months and over: $80 - Rabbits: $25 - Ferrets: $55 - Parakeets: $15 - Rats, Hamsters, Gerbils: $5 - Finches and Canaries: $10 - Mice: $3 - Cockatiels: $50 - Guinea Pigs: $12 - Chinchillas: $50 - Pigs: $100

The Humane Society of Jefferson County (HSJC) is a small, privately operated non-profit shelter located in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Established in 1922, we recently celebrated our 90th anniversary of providing care for dogs, cats, birds, and other small animals in need. Annually, nearly 1,000 pets find refuge at our shelter. We are dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their owners and finding loving new homes for animals in need of a second chance. We do not place a time limit on how long a healthy, adoptable animal can stay with us while awaiting adoption.
