Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, you must first complete an adoption application. L.E.A.R.N. will acknowledge receipt of your application via email. Once your application is received, a volunteer will reach out to schedule a home visit. During this visit, they will explain the adoption process and discuss your home environment, as well as your preferences and expectations regarding a Labrador Retriever. After you are approved as an adopter, our volunteers will begin matching your preferences with the needs of our foster dogs. Approved adopters are encouraged to participate in this matching process. This may take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months, as we aim to ensure a successful match for both the adopter and the dog. Generally, being flexible can help expedite the process. When a match is found, the potential adopter will meet the foster dog, typically at the foster home. Any dogs already in the family should accompany you to this meeting. Upon adoption, you will receive a copy of the Adoption Agreement, the Foster Dog Information Form, the rabies certificate, vaccination information, and copies of all veterinary records. Following the adoption, the foster home will reach out to you shortly afterward. Approximately two months post-adoption, another L.E.A.R.N. volunteer will contact you to check on your progress and address any questions you may have. L.E.A.R.N.’s adoption fees assist in covering a portion of the necessary veterinary and medical expenses. The adoption fees are as follows: $300 for puppies under 6 months of age $250 for dogs over 6 months of age $225 for dogs aged 8 years or older Additionally, all adoptions qualify for a $50 reimbursement if the adopter attends any training class within six months of the adoption. If the Labrador is not spayed or neutered prior to adoption, a refundable deposit of $150 is required, which will be returned upon providing proof of the procedure from your veterinarian.
