Adopting from Humane Society of Burnett County

Adoption process

To adopt a dog or cat, applicants must successfully pass a background check and complete the application process available on the HSBC website. The fee for dog adoption is $225, which covers a range of services, including spay/neuter procedures, a rabies vaccination (if the dog is old enough), DHP-Parvo vaccinations for dogs over four months old, and DPV vaccinations for those under four months. Additionally, the fee includes a fecal examination, worming medication, and a follow-up, as well as a heartworm test for dogs aged two years and older. Symptomatic dogs will be tested for Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, and anaplasmosis, with treatment provided if any of these tests return positive. The fee also covers flea and tick treatment, microchipping (with registration submitted on your behalf), and a training DVD that offers guidance on crate training, house training, and addressing common behavioral issues. New dog owners will receive food samples to help transition their pet to a proper diet. For cat adoption, the fees are $50 for males and $65 for females. This fee includes spay/neuter services, a Feline Leukemia test, deworming, flea and tick treatment, and a rabies vaccination (with a similar arrangement for those too young for the shot). The adoption also includes the Eclipse 4 vaccine.
