Adoption Process
We frequently offer special adoption deals, so please reach out to us for information regarding fees. The current adoption fees are as follows: For dogs: - Senior Dogs (5 years and older) are free for senior citizens aged 55 and older. - Large Dogs (20 pounds or larger) are $50.00. - Small Dogs (20 pounds or less) are $100.00. - Puppies (under 5 months) are $150.00. For cats: - Adult Cats are $10.00. - Kittens are $25.00. All adoptions include spay/neuter services, microchipping, appropriate vaccinations (FVRCP for cats and DHPP/Bordatella for dogs), a leash, collar, ID tag, a 5-pound bag of Science Diet, a cardboard cat carrier, FELV/FIV tests for cats, and a free health exam at a local veterinarian. Salt Lake County Animal Services is the leading animal service agency in Utah. As the largest no-kill shelter in the state, we are committed to providing comprehensive care for animals. Our full-service veterinary clinic operates year-round, and we maintain a 24/7 field operation to address animal-related issues at all times. Each year, we host over 175 community outreach events and have received national recognition for our innovative programs. Our dedicated volunteers contribute tens of thousands of hours to our mission annually. Through our voucher program, we offer free microchips and vaccinations to pets in our jurisdictions. We have been honored with the "Best of State" designation five times in the last six years. Our services extend to residents and pets in the unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County, as well as in Salt Lake City, Holladay City, Herriman City, Midvale City, and Riverton City. For the past six years, we have committed to operating as a no-kill facility, achieving a live release rate of over 91 percent in 2013 and 92 percent in 2014, making us the largest shelter in Utah to reach this level. We facilitate pet adoptions, provide pet licensing, enforce animal-related city and county ordinances, and offer shelter for all types of lost and abandoned pets. Additionally, we investigate complaints of animal cruelty, abuse, and neglect; provide humane euthanasia services at the request of pet owners (for a fee); respond to emergencies involving injured or aggressive animals; and offer free humane education programs in schools within our service areas.
