Adoption Process

If you find an animal that you are interested in adopting, please feel free to contact us. The adoption process starts with an application, which allows us to understand your needs and capabilities. This is followed by a meet and greet. We may also conduct home visits and contact landlords at our discretion. All dogs are adopted with a contract, and each adoption includes a complimentary one-hour session with a professional who is already acquainted with your new pet. Adoption fees are based on what you can afford, are tax-deductible, and all proceeds are utilized for the care of the animals at Dog House.

The Dog House Rescue in Reno, NV

The Dog House Rescue is the passion project of two dog enthusiasts who initially visited a municipal animal shelter to adopt one dog but ended up bringing home seven. Like many, we were under the impression that most shelters provide a no-kill environment for homeless animals. However, we discovered that one facility had an euthanasia rate of 80% due to overcrowding, leaving dogs with less than a week to find new homes. Many wonderful dogs simply find themselves in unfortunate situations due to their geographic location. Our mission is to connect loving families with well-tempered dogs in need of homes. We focus on those animals that end up in shelters through no fault of their own and face euthanasia due to lack of space. We provide necessary medical care, spay/neuter services, and obedience training to ensure these dogs can thrive in their forever homes. Our adoption process begins with an application that outlines the adopter's preferences and capabilities, followed by meet-and-greet sessions. This allows potential adopters to bond with their future pet, and we take the opportunity to learn about their expectations and hopes for their new companion. Once a match is made and mutual chemistry is established, we finalize the adoption contract and celebrate the transition with a complimentary training session. This hour with a professional trainer, who is already familiar with the dog, helps owners understand their new pet's needs and serves as a resource for any future questions. At The Dog House, all of our residents are considered family for life. We recognize that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and if an adopted dog can no longer stay in their home, they are always welcome back. Having already faced the challenges of shelter life, we are committed to ensuring that they will never be homeless again.
