Adoption Process

The adoption fee is $70.00, which covers spaying or neutering, a combination test for Feline Leukemia and FIV, up-to-date vaccinations, as well as worming and flea treatment. To begin the adoption process, applicants must complete a straightforward application designed to help us find long-term homes and ensure the cat or kitten is a suitable match for the family. The application can be emailed or downloaded from our website. After we receive the application, it will be reviewed, and a representative from our organization will contact you within 24 to 48 hours. Please note that our policy prohibits de-clawing. After reviewing the application and contacting references, we will arrange a meet and greet with the potential adopter. If the adoption is approved, the adopter will be required to sign an agreement.

Service Areas

The service areas include Hammond, Ponchatoula, Albany, Livingston, Bedico, and Robert.

PURRS of HOPE Rescue in Hammond, LA

PURRS of HOPE Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Hammond, Louisiana. We are entirely reliant on donations and operate as an all-volunteer organization, with all contributions being tax-deductible. Our mission is to rescue and save homeless cats and kittens that have become strays or unwanted through no fault of their own. We also rescue cats from high-kill shelters. We provide veterinary care to enhance their health and ensure they receive the love and quality of life they deserve while they are fostered until they find their forever homes. As a no-kill organization, once a pet enters our foster care, it will remain there until it is adopted or an appropriate long-term foster home is found. All cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, given age-appropriate vaccinations, treated for worms, and addressed for fleas. We welcome and encourage volunteers to assist with fostering, transporting, and caring for the cats. We are committed to educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We collaborate with other local non-profit organizations to achieve our goal of reducing the overpopulation of cats in our area by providing assistance and transportation to low-cost spay and neuter clinics. Additionally, we engage in the trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral cats in our community. TNR is a humane method of managing feral and free-roaming cat populations, preventing them from breeding. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returned to their environment or relocated if necessary, improving their quality of life and reducing their numbers.
