Adoption Process
To begin the adoption process, an application is required. The steps in our application process include a background check, a veterinary reference check, a landlord check, and an in-person home visit. We have an adoption donation scale that is tax-deductible: - For dogs aged 9 weeks to 1 year, the adoption fee is $450. - For dogs over 1 year and up to 10 years old, the fee is $400. - For dogs over 10 years old, the fee is $350. All adopted dogs will come with age-appropriate vaccinations, which include rabies and the canine distemper/adenovirus (hepatitis)/parvovirus vaccine, as well as a microchip. We generally do not consider applicants residing more than 60 miles from Zip Code 20906, unless the dog’s bio specifies a required breed experience or environmental setting. However, we may consider excellent matches in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia on a case-by-case basis. Submitting an application and participating in the home visit does not guarantee approval. Typically, we select three approved families for each dog from which to choose the final adopter. Once approved, if you do not pick up your dog within seven days following a successful meet and greet, we will proceed with the next potential adopter. We recommend that you wait to schedule a meet and greet until you are fully prepared to bring the dog home. If you do not hear from us via email or phone within seven business days of submitting your application, this indicates that your application was not selected for that particular dog. We do not send notifications stating that applications were not chosen. We do not promote our dogs as house trained or allergy-friendly, regardless of their breed, which is often based on estimation. The age we provide for our dogs is based on our veterinarian's assessment unless we have an exact birthdate. Dogs may display normal but potentially undesirable behaviors, such as house soiling, nipping, barking, and digging. We can only share behaviors we have observed or been reported by foster homes, and we do not guarantee that all behaviors are known or that new behaviors will not develop. Many of our dogs come from shelters, often in rural areas, and may require multiple deworming treatments to eliminate intestinal parasites. While we provide one or two treatments while the dogs are in our care, additional treatments may be necessary. A fecal examination should be conducted during the vet's evaluation within the 14 days following adoption. The possibility of a foster home adopting the animal will be communicated to all potential adopters. Before submitting the application, it is important to read and understand our adoption contract, which can be found on our website. It is essential to note that all pets adopted from us must be spayed or neutered at one of our partner facilities if this has not already been done. In addition to the adoption donation, a refundable deposit of $125 is required to ensure compliance. If a dog is not already spayed or neutered, Tasca's Love Cooperative (TLC) will schedule and cover the costs for the procedure at a designated clinic. If the adopter chooses a different vet or facility not authorized by TLC, reimbursement will be limited to the refundable deposit and up to TLC's customary maximum for spay/neuter surgeries. The only clinics approved by TLC for spay/neuter surgeries are SpayNow Animal Surgery Clinic in Laurel, MD, and Grasonville, MD, as well as Spay Spa & Neuter Nook in Davidsonville, MD.

Tasca's Love Cooperative in Silver Spring, MD
Tasca's Love Cooperative is a non-profit organization comprised entirely of volunteers, dedicated to fostering and rescuing dogs in the Washington, DC metro area. Our mission is to save dogs that have been left homeless in overcrowded public shelters, where they face a high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation. We also assist dogs surrendered by their owners due to challenging circumstances, those at risk of abuse or neglect, and dogs with special medical needs. We collaborate with shelters, other rescue organizations, and humane societies to build a network of supporters and volunteers aimed at improving the lives of homeless dogs. Our proactive approach includes sharing information and coordinating transportation to maximize the number of dogs we can help. We are committed to placing dogs in loving, responsible, and permanent homes through a thorough adoption process. This process involves carefully matching dogs with prospective adopters and educating them about the responsibilities and costs associated with dog ownership. Our organization remains engaged with the welfare of each dog even after the adoption is finalized. All dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive appropriate veterinary care, and are placed in nurturing foster homes while they await their permanent placements. We strive to assist dogs in need, regardless of their age or breed, to the extent that our resources permit.
