Black Dogs & Company Rescue, Inc. (BD&CR) is dedicated to rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters in Maryland and neighboring states. While we are an all-breed rescue, we focus on helping black dogs, as they often face challenges in finding homes due to black dog syndrome. These dogs are frequently the last to be adopted, making it difficult for them to leave the shelter. Additionally, our logo features an Old English Sheepdog, as we serve as the regional contact for Old English Sheepdog rescue. This breed may not be suitable for everyone, but those who embrace it often develop a deep affection for them once they experience the unique qualities of walking the "sheepie way."

Adoption process

All prospective adopters are required to complete an adoption application. We will reach out to the applicant's veterinarian as well as two personal references, and we will conduct a preliminary background check. Once the application is approved, a home visit will be scheduled. The adoption fee for all dogs and puppies is $300, and an adoption contract will need to be signed.

Service area: Our organization is based in Harford County, Maryland. We serve an adoption area within a 2.5-hour radius of the 21034 zip code. We rescue dogs from both local shelters and high-kill rural shelters located in the southern United States.
