Adoption Process
The adoption process begins with the completion of our online application, available on our website. Please note that applications will only be considered from individuals residing in the immediate Sacramento area, including Sacramento County, parts of Placer County, and certain areas of El Dorado County. The next step involves a home check. Our primary concern during this stage is ensuring that your yard is completely secure, with no loose boards or gaps in the fencing. If your dog will spend time outside while you are at work or away, it is essential that there is adequate shade or shelter from the elements. Before scheduling the home check, we may request photos of your yard and fencing to assess the living conditions for the dog. If you have any questions or concerns about the home check, please refer to our section on "How to Prepare for a Home Check." The final step in the adoption process is the meet and greet. This meeting allows us to introduce you and any existing pets to the rescue dog, ensuring that everyone gets along. Once all introductions are successfully completed, the dog will be ready for adoption. Please understand that there is no pressure in this process, and if any issues arise that cannot be resolved, we will always take the dog back. Additionally, each dog will require an acclimation period, which can vary from a few days to a few weeks. We are here to support you throughout this transition, including referring a trainer to assist with you and your new dog. ADOPTION PREREQUISITES: As all of our dogs are rescues, they require homes where they will experience a "CHARTED LIFE." All adopted dogs will be indoor pets with outdoor privileges, as we believe dogs are family members and should be allowed to sleep indoors. They should only be kept outside in suitable weather conditions. Applications for outdoor-only dogs will be denied. All current pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventative. Out-of-area adoptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. HOW TO PREPARE FOR A HOME CHECK: To prepare for the home check, walk the perimeter of your yard and assess the condition of your fencing. Look for any loose boards or gaps that may need repair, as these are typically easy fixes. Ensure that your gate has a functioning lock. If you plan to leave your new dog outdoors while at work, make sure there is adequate shade or shelter available. Remove any hazardous items from your yard, such as exposed nails or chemicals. If you have a cat, ensure it has a high place to retreat to if chased. Additionally, be mindful of the placement of garbage cans that a dog could access. Please address these issues prior to our visit. ADOPTION FEES: All dogs will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our adoption fees are considered donations, which are reinvested into our rescue efforts to help dogs in need. The minimum cost to properly vet a dog is $100, but some medical cases can incur expenses in the thousands. Therefore, our adoption fees are as follows: $500 for puppies (dogs under one year old) and $300 for most adult dogs (one year or older). Please note that French and English Bulldogs have higher adoption fees, which are detailed on our website.

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue in Citrus Heights, CA
NorCal Bully Breed Rescue (NBBR) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization committed to aiding animals in need within our community. Although our primary focus is on bully breeds, we do not discriminate and will often assist dogs of any breed, contingent upon the availability of foster homes. We primarily rescue dogs from local shelters, prioritizing those with medical challenges and those whose behavior may be deteriorating due to the stress of shelter life. These dogs are frequently overlooked and in critical need of support. NBBR is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, with the tax ID number 46-3665141. Donations to our organization are fully tax-deductible and are used to fund our operations and veterinary expenses. Our mission includes reducing the number of homeless pets through the spaying and neutering of all rescued dogs, as well as educating the community on the importance of spaying and neutering all animals. We provide information on low-cost or free spay/neuter clinics in our surrounding areas. All dogs that come into our care undergo temperament testing, receive updated vaccinations, are spayed or neutered, and are microchipped. Many of our dogs also receive treatment for various medical conditions, including mange, heartworms, fractures, and neurological issues. The preparation time for adoption can range from one month to one year, and the costs associated with each dog can vary from $100 to several thousand dollars. We rescue dogs at risk of euthanasia for reasons such as prolonged shelter stay or medical conditions that prevent them from being adopted by the public, categorizing them as "rescue only." This designation means that only a rescue can take them from the shelter, placing the financial responsibility for their care on us. In addition to shelter rescues, we also assist stray dogs, covering the costs of vaccinations, spaying, neutering, and microchipping. We help dogs whose owners can no longer care for them by networking to find new homes, as long as the owner can continue to house the dog during the process. We ensure that all dogs in our care are provided with a safe living environment and all necessary supplies for foster homes until they are adopted. Our goal is to prevent these dogs from entering shelters, where they may face the risk of euthanasia due to space limitations or stress-related behavioral issues.
