Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the potential adopter viewing the horse on our website. After that, they submit an application, which we review by screening the veterinarian, farrier, and two personal references. Once the application is approved, the adopter is invited to meet the horse in person. If the adopter decides to proceed with the adoption, they will sign an adoption agreement contract and pay an adoption fee. We retain a 12-month right of first refusal, and please note that there is no trial period.

We are a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit organization dedicated to equine sanctuary and welfare. Our services include community programs during the summer, horse adoptions, and sanctuary placements. We partner with the Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Bernardino County departments of Animal Care and Control, as well as Animal Services, to facilitate adoptions. We are also active members of The Homes For Horses Coalition, the Humane Society of the United States Safe Stalls Network, the ASPCA Horse Action Team, and the HSUS Forever Foundation Training Program. Our organization has earned a Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid.com and GuideStar.com. Based in Simi Valley, California, we additionally operate a satellite rescue where all horses are either privately fostered or boarded. Our mission is grounded in the belief in the sanctity and dignity of senior equines and those with special needs, recognizing their value and the unique contributions they can make to their human companions, regardless of their rideability.
