Adoption Process

The first step in adopting a dog is to complete an Adoption Application. Please provide detailed answers to help us understand your home and family situation. A volunteer will review your application and respond within five days. Due to the high volume of applications, initial communication will occur via email, so please check your inbox for our response. If you do not receive a reply within five days, feel free to reach out to us via email. We reserve the right to deny an application if we believe that a particular home may not be suitable for one of our Keeshond rescue dogs. If we decide not to proceed with your application, we will strive to inform you as promptly as possible. Given the number of applications we receive daily, we carefully evaluate each one, considering factors such as the family's lifestyle, time spent at home, yard size, existing pets, previous pet ownership history, and dog knowledge. We compare these details to what we believe would provide the best environment for the dog, taking into account their training and exercise needs, any medical requirements, and how they interact with children and other animals. After our review, we select the application that appears to be the best match for the dog. If your application is not chosen for the dog you initially expressed interest in, we encourage you to visit our website frequently and contact us if you find another dog that may suit your family. A home visit is required prior to the approval of an application and must take place before adoption. During this visit, a volunteer will assess the security of your fence and gates and check for any safety hazards or concerns within your home. We also want to ensure that all household members are in agreement with the adoption and that any current pets are well cared for. Adoption fees for a Keeshond dog range from $250 to $400.
