Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the submission of an application form, which is followed by either a home or phone interview. A contract must be signed prior to the transfer of the dog. Adoption fees vary based on the age of the dog. Dogs aged eight and older are eligible for reduced price adoptions for adopters who are 65 years or older, as part of the Golden Oldies program. All dogs adopted through GGBR must be returned to GGBR if the adopter is unable to keep the dog. We do not place dogs with owners who intend to keep them chained or solely in a yard; however, indoor and outdoor living arrangements are acceptable. Our goal is to match each dog with the best possible home.

Service Areas

The service areas include Northern California, specifically from Monterey, Fresno, and Mono counties extending north to the Oregon border, as well as the Reno and Sparks areas in Nevada.

Golden Gate Basset Rescue in Petaluma, CA

We are a breed-specific rescue dedicated to purebred Basset Hounds, although we occasionally crosspost for all-breed rescues, particularly for mixed breeds. Our organization accepts owner-surrendered hounds and rescues dogs from shelters across Northern California. Our mission is to ensure that no Basset Hound will ever face euthanasia in a shelter or suffer from a lack of care in the hands of their guardians.
