Adoption Process
Our adoption process is thorough and designed to ensure the well-being of our dachshunds. Prospective adopters must complete an online application, which includes a careful screening to confirm that all currently owned pets are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and receiving monthly heartworm medication. Applicants are required to provide veterinary and personal references, demonstrating their commitment to providing lifelong care for the dachshund, including love, nutrition, exercise, and appropriate veterinary care. Additionally, a plan must be in place for the care of the dachshund if the adopter is unable to continue providing for him or her or if the dachshund outlives the adopter. A home visit is conducted before adoption approval. If the visit is successful and the match is appropriate, K Kids and the adopter will sign an adoption agreement after the adoption fee is paid. The fees are $350 for puppies, $275 for adult dogs aged 1 to 7, and $150 for senior dogs aged 8 and older. Once the fee is settled, the adopter may take the dachshund home. If the desired dachshund is not available, K Kids will keep the application on file for future matching opportunities.

K Kids Dachshund Rescue Inc in Charlottesville, VA
K Kids Dachshund Rescue Inc was established in Virginia in February 2018 and received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in May of the same year. Our organization is dedicated to the welfare of the dachshund breed, focusing on managing overpopulation through spaying and neutering. We strive to place dachshunds from shelters and those surrendered by their owners into high-quality adoptive homes, employing a thorough screening process. Additionally, we educate dog owners on how to ensure their dachshunds remain happy and healthy by emphasizing proper nutrition and exercise. We also provide guidance on addressing common health issues associated with the breed, such as intervertebral disc disease and pancreatitis, as well as behavioral challenges through training and consistent efforts.
