Adoption Process

When a suitable family is identified for the dog or puppy, we first conduct a phone interview, followed by a home visit to ensure a good match. If both steps are successful, we proceed with the adoption contract and facilitate the introduction of the pet to their new home and family. The standard adoption fee is $200, although there are instances where it may be lower. This fee covers the first vaccinations, deworming, and a discounted rate for spaying or neutering and rabies vaccinations through our veterinary partner.

XOXO Pet Rescue, Inc. is in the process of becoming a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are officially recognized by the state as a nonprofit entity. Our mission is to rescue as many animals as possible, relying on the dedicated efforts of our wonderful volunteers and supporters. We strive to connect unwanted pets with loving families. While our primary focus is on rescuing puppies and dogs, we also extend our compassion to other animals in need, including those that are furry or feathered. Our organization operates through a foster care model, with foster homes located throughout the Tidewater area, from the oceanfront to Williamsburg and various locations in between. Our caring foster families provide temporary homes for our animals until they are adopted into permanent families. The puppies we rescue come from various sources, primarily high-kill shelters that lack the resources to care for them. These shelters reach out to us for assistance, and we respond by taking in as many dogs as our foster homes can accommodate. Each dog receives necessary vaccinations and de-worming, and our foster families provide them with love and care until they find their forever homes. Utilizing foster families allows us to gather accurate information about each dog's personality, including their preferences, compatibility with other pets, and behavior around children and adults. This foster-based approach ensures that our dogs are well-prepared to become cherished members of their new families.
