Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with a written application, followed by a telephone interview. After that, we conduct reference checks and arrange a home visit, leading to introductions between the prospective dog and your family. An adoption contract is required, along with permission from your landlord if you do not own your home. It is essential for all family members and resident dogs to meet the potential dog before the adoption is finalized. We also request an adoption fee that ranges from $200 to $500, depending on the dog's age and condition. For instance, a young, healthy, and pedigreed dog would typically be at the higher end of the fee range. These fees are crucial for our operation, as veterinary expenses average around $350 per dog. Every dog in our care receives a complete medical exam, vaccinations, and is spayed or neutered. Upon adoption, you will receive the dog's medical records and a microchip for identification.

Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ

DHDR was established on January 6, 2009. Our mission encompasses two primary objectives: first, to rescue purebred Doberman Pinschers in Arizona, assess their needs, provide necessary treatment, and find them suitable, loving forever homes; second, to educate the public about the breed and the responsibilities of living with a Doberman. Our top priority is to save fundamentally sound dogs who are at high risk of death or abuse, including those on shelter "kill" lists, strays, and foundlings, in accordance with applicable laws. Once we have explored all possible options to keep these dogs in their current homes, and when our resources allow, our second priority is to rescue owner-surrendered purebred Dobermans from being placed in shelters or facing euthanasia.
