About this shelter

Arizona Labrador & Giant Breed Rescue, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ

ALGBR is committed to educating the public about the breeds we rescue. We engage in both public and private events to inform school children and the general public. As a non-profit organization, we rely entirely on donations, and all of our staff members are unpaid volunteers. Our passion for these wonderful animals drives us to place as many as possible into permanent homes. Our dogs come from various sources, primarily from owner turn-ins, which are dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. By accepting these dogs into our organization, we prevent them from being surrendered to the Humane Society or Animal Care and Control. This approach benefits the dogs significantly, as it reduces their exposure to disease and minimizes the mental stress associated with moving from a home environment to a smaller program like ours. Additionally, accepting owner turn-ins allows us to gather more comprehensive histories of the dogs. We also participate in the Maricopa County Animal Care & Control New Hope Program, which enables us to take in dogs that are at risk of euthanasia, often due to space limitations. Furthermore, we collaborate with other rescue organizations that may lack the capacity to care for specific dogs. After we intake a dog, it typically spends time in a foster home. Our foster homes consist of volunteers who treat their foster dogs as their own. They provide essential care, including housebreaking, basic training, grooming, and medical attention. All dogs available for adoption have undergone a basic veterinary checkup, received current vaccinations, and are microchipped.

Adopting from this shelter

Adoption process

Prospective adopters begin by completing an adoption application, either online or in person. An adoption coordinator will receive and review the application. If the application is approved, a home visit coordinator will arrange a home visit with the prospective adopter. Following the completion of the home visit and subsequent approval, the adopter's information will be entered into a database to facilitate matching with a rescue dog that aligns with their lifestyle and preferences. Once a mutual decision for adoption is reached between the adopter and the foster caregiver, the adoption fees are collected, and the adopter receives all relevant medical and vaccination information for the dog.
