Adoption Process

The dogs and cats available for adoption are currently in foster homes. To begin the adoption process, an individual must complete an adoption application. This application will be screened, and veterinary references will be contacted. Following this, the applicant will be invited for an interview. If the application is approved, it will be forwarded to the foster caregiver to arrange a meet-and-greet with the animal. Should that meeting go well, a home visit will be scheduled for final approval. Once approved, the adopter is required to complete an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee. All animals are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped before adoption.

Paws on the Ground Colorado, established in 2016 by a group of committed advocates, aims to eliminate puppy mills in Colorado. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to ending the commerce of puppy mills in the state. We assist a local pet store in providing rescue puppies and kittens, facilitating a transition to a humane business model, while also fostering and adopting animals in need.
