Tennessee Shelter Dog Project in Sparta, TN
We primarily rescue dogs from shelters, but we also accept surrendered pets to prevent them from entering shelters. Each pet undergoes a thorough examination, is spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. They are placed on monthly preventive treatments, and we initiate basic obedience training and housebreaking. We collaborate with other rescue organizations that follow similar processes and screening criteria, allowing us to transfer dogs to them if they have approved adopters. Our ultimate goal is to rescue as many pets from shelter situations as possible and help them find loving, permanent homes.

Adopting from Tennessee Shelter Dog Project
Adoption process
To begin the adoption process, applicants must complete an adoption application. We will verify all references, including those from veterinarians, landlords, and personal contacts. If the application is approved, we will schedule a home visit and bring the pet to the applicant's home. Upon approval, the adopter can finalize the adoption by signing a contract and making payment directly to our veterinarian or by donating food, supplies, or other items of equivalent value. The adoption fee is set at $180, either paid to the veterinarian or through donations of supplies valued at that amount.
