Adoption Process
The adoption fee for cats is $85, and for dogs, it is $100. All cats are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered (a voucher will be provided if the animal is not old enough), and tested for feline leukemia. Dogs are also up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered (with a voucher provided if necessary), and puppies are tested for parvovirus. The adoption agreement includes the following commitments: You agree to provide a good and safe home for the adopted animal and to keep its vaccinations current while seeking veterinary assistance in case of illness or emergency. You consent to a home visit by a Humane Society agent, either prior to or following the adoption. If unforeseen circumstances arise, you agree to return the adopted pet to the Humane Society. The Humane Society is strictly against de-clawing cats and de-barking dogs, considering these procedures cruel and harmful to the animals' ability to defend themselves. All pets from the Humane Society have been altered or are scheduled for alteration. If the pet is not yet altered, you agree to take the animal to its scheduled appointment. The animal is reported to have a clean bill of health to the best of the Humane Society’s knowledge. Adult animals are vaccinated, while any necessary booster shots for kittens or puppies are the owner's responsibility. A non-refundable adoption donation of $85 for cats and $100 for dogs is requested to help cover the costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, medical tests, and fostering expenses. The adoption application will require information such as the type and name of the pet, your contact details, residence status, and whether you have other pets or children in the household. You will also need to provide references and information about your veterinarian. You are encouraged to take your new pet for a veterinary check-up soon after adoption. The Humane Society makes every effort to ensure animals are healthy, but it cannot guarantee the health, behavior, breed, or other characteristics of any animal at the time of adoption. Each year, over 4,300 cats and dogs are euthanized in local shelters due to abandonment. The Humane Society urges pet owners to spay or neuter their pets to help reduce overpopulation. The organization is a local non-profit and does not receive funding from the National Humane Society. Any contributions are tax-exempt and greatly appreciated. They are also looking for foster families to help care for animals in need. If an adoption does not work out, please return the pet to the Humane Society, as they understand that circumstances can change, and they will always welcome the animal back. Signature: Date: The Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County is committed to finding loving homes for cats and dogs in need. Families are encouraged to bring all members when adopting to ensure compatibility and harmony in the household. An adoption application must be completed, identification provided, and the adoption fee paid for a fully vetted pet.

Humane Society of Lawton Comanche County in Lawton, OK
Our organization is a non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue dedicated to providing a safe haven for dogs and cats that might otherwise face uncertain futures. Our team of passionate volunteers is committed to the rescue mission of finding loving homes for the animals in our care. All pets are spayed or neutered, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, and tested before they are adopted into new homes. We are always in need of foster homes, and your support in opening your heart and home to our animals would be greatly appreciated. Each foster home enables another animal to find a loving family. While we ideally seek fosters in the Lawton area, all offers will be considered. Donations are essential to our work, and they are fully tax-deductible. Supporting our cause is a meaningful alternative to contributing to taxes. At times, we also require barn homes for cats that prefer not to live indoors. If you can provide a warm shelter, along with supplemental food and water, we can supply you with a healthy, vetted cat to help control rodent populations. This arrangement benefits both the cat and the barn owner. We are also in need of skilled grant writers. Grants are vital to our operations, and while we focus on caring for the animals and placing them in homes, we need assistance in securing funding through written proposals. If you cannot adopt, consider fostering. If fostering is not an option, you can sponsor an animal. If sponsorship doesn't work for you, there are opportunities to volunteer. If volunteering isn't feasible, donations are always welcome. Even if you cannot donate, you can help by educating others, networking, and crossposting our needs. Everyone can contribute in some way, no matter how small, to help save a life.
