The DeKalb Humane Society submitted its Certificate of Incorporation application on December 23, 1975, and was granted 501(c)(3) status in March 1976. We are dedicated to operating as a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County community by promoting animal adoption, educating the public on responsible animal ownership and welfare, and raising awareness about animal neglect and abuse.

Adoption process
To begin the adoption process, please complete an application. We will conduct a vet and reference check. You will have the opportunity to meet the animal and participate in meet-and-greet sessions with all animals. The adoption fee for dogs is $200, which covers neutering, microchipping, and vaccinations. For cats, we request a free will donation that includes neutering and vaccinations.
