Adoption Process

The adoption process starts with filling out an Adoption Application, which must be followed by the completion of approved references and a successful house and fence check. To finalize the adoption, an adoption agreement must be signed. Adoption fees vary based on the breed, age, and health of the pet.

LL Dog Rescue in Shawnee Mission, KS

LL Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Missouri, licensed as an Animal Care Facility in Missouri and as an Animal Shelter in Kansas. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find new homes for unwanted dogs, with a focus on purebred toy breeds, particularly Chihuahuas and Shetland Sheepdogs, in the Greater Kansas City area, which includes both Missouri and Kansas. We take in dogs from various situations, including owner relinquishments, strays, and those adopted from local shelters nearing the end of their stay. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, or adopted out under a pre-paid spay/neuter contract if they are under four months old. They receive health checks for heartworm, and are vaccinated against rabies, kennel cough, and parvovirus/distemper. Many dogs undergo deworming, and some receive extensive dental care. In addition to our rescue efforts, we offer pre- and post-adoption education to help new pet owners with the care and maintenance of their pets, covering veterinary needs and behavioral considerations.
