Adoption Process

Our adoption process begins with the receipt of applications, followed by reference checks. We then meet with the applicants and arrange visits for them to interact with the animal. If everything is satisfactory, they are permitted to take the dog home. For horse adoptions, prospective adopters are required to work with the horse on the ground and ride it—depending on the horse's needs—at least three times to ensure they can manage the horse and build a connection with it.

Healing Hands Sanctuary in Mt. Pleasant, IA

We are a small, all-volunteer rescue organization dedicated to helping horses and dogs. We take in animals that owners can no longer care for, and we also purchase horses from kill pens at sale barns. Our team addresses any issues the animals may have, ensures they are spayed or neutered, and works to improve their health. Ultimately, we strive to find them loving, permanent homes.
