Adoption Process

The adoption fee is $300, which covers up-to-date vaccinations, spaying or neutering, a microchip, heartworm testing, and testing for internal parasites. We place dogs in homes that have fenced yards and require the signing of a contract. This contract stipulates that if you are unable to keep the dog for any reason, you must return it to our organization. Preference in the adoption process is determined by the best fit for the dog, the order in which interest is expressed, and, to some extent, geographic location. We only place dogs within the southeastern states, giving preference to adopters who live near the foster home when all other factors are equal. In certain cases, we will consider placing dogs with families that have young children under the age of 7. However, this requires an evaluation of the dog's behavior with young children in the foster home, which can be conducted by some of our volunteers. The same evaluation process applies to families with small pets, such as cats. While some of our dogs may coexist peacefully with cats, we cannot assume compatibility without evaluation, as their prey drive can make them unsuitable for such environments. Although some rescued German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs) may have hunting instincts, we do not adopt them out primarily as hunting dogs. They should first and foremost be family pets, with hunting being a secondary consideration. As with other evaluations, some foster homes can assess potential hunting abilities, while others cannot.
