Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abused, unwanted, and abandoned companion animals. Founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, the organization was established to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when soldiers from nearby Fort Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, Southern Comfort relocated to Glenwood, Georgia, where it addresses a critical need in Wheeler County, which lacks other rescue services or animal control. The organization specializes in the physical, social, and emotional rehabilitation of its rescued animals. All animals are thoroughly examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and receive any necessary medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes. Southern Comfort operates as a "no-kill" rescue, only considering euthanasia in cases of irremediable suffering or for animals that are deemed vicious and dangerous. Additionally, the organization is committed to raising public awareness about the challenges faced by homeless animals and promoting the benefits of adopting animals in need through community outreach and educational initiatives.
