Adoption Process
The adoption fees for dogs and cats vary based on their age and sterilization status. For dogs under three years old, the fee is $70 if the dog has been sterilized by the Clay County Animal Control and Care (CCACC). If the dog was previously sterilized, the fee is $20. If the dog is not sterilized, the adoption fee is $10, and the adopter will be responsible for the cost of sterilization at a Clay County veterinarian. For dogs three years and older, there is no adoption fee. However, if the dog has not been sterilized, the adopter must cover the sterilization costs at a Clay County veterinarian. For cats up to one year old, the adoption fee is $30 if they have been sterilized by CCACC. The fee is $20 if they were previously sterilized. If the cat is not sterilized, the fee is $10, and the adopter will need to pay for sterilization at a Clay County veterinarian. For cats between one and two years old, the fee is $15 if they are sterilized by CCACC and $10 if they were previously sterilized. There is no adoption fee for cats that are not sterilized, but the adopter is responsible for the sterilization costs at a Clay County veterinarian. For cats three years and older, there is no adoption fee, but the adopter will be responsible for the cost of sterilization at a Clay County veterinarian.
