Adoption Process

We believe that every homeless pet deserves to find a perfect home, and we are committed to taking the time necessary to make that happen. Most of the animals in our care have been rescued, and we are dedicated to ensuring that their new homes are an improvement over their previous situations. To begin the adoption process, we require all potential adopters to complete an adoption application. Our board reviews each application to determine the most suitable home for each pet. We then arrange for a home visit and utilize a legally binding adoption contract. An adoption fee is charged, which contributes to the veterinary expenses and care of the pet. It is important to note that, in most cases, the adoption fee does not fully cover our out-of-pocket costs, so we rely on the generosity of the community to assist in placing animals in their forever homes.

Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue, Inc. was established in January 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We are a no-kill, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization. As a no-kill rescue, we provide more than just basic care for animals, and our veterinary services are not free. We partner with Hollywood Animal Hospital to receive discounted vet care, but expenses can accumulate, especially when a rescued animal requires significant medical attention. Our organization is comprised entirely of volunteers who have full-time careers and family commitments. We dedicate our time to rescue efforts, which are our true passion, outside of our work hours and on weekends. Therefore, if you do not receive an immediate response to your phone calls or emails, it is likely because we are at work. We appreciate your understanding and will return your call as soon as possible.
