Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, you will need to complete an adoption questionnaire. This helps us match you with the right pet for you and your family. Once a suitable match is identified, you will fill out and sign the adoption contract. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $100. This fee includes spaying or neutering, microchipping, age-appropriate vaccinations, and heartworm testing for adult dogs. For kittens, the adoption fee is $80, and for cats, it is $65. Cats and kittens are also spayed or neutered, receive age-appropriate vaccinations, and are tested for feline leukemia.

Pick of the Pound, Inc. in Los Lunas, NM

Pick of the Pound, Inc. is a non-profit organization recognized under section 501(c)(3). We are a committed group of volunteers focused on assisting the homeless animals in Valencia County, with a particular emphasis on those at the Valencia County Animal Shelter. Due to the shelter's low adoption rates, Pick of the Pound, Inc. was established to help find homes for many deserving animals. In collaboration with shelter staff, we take animals from the shelter and place them in foster homes. The animals receive testing for heartworm or feline leukemia, are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and then made available for adoption. Our efforts began in September 2000, and within just five and a half years, we successfully placed over 1,600 animals into loving homes.
