Adoption Process

Our adoption process involves sourcing animals from local shelters and accepting owner surrenders. Each animal undergoes a thorough veterinary evaluation, which includes ensuring they are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, tested for heartworms, dewormed, and receiving any other necessary veterinary care. Once an animal has completed all required medical procedures, it will be listed online for adoption and/or showcased at local adoption events. Prospective adopters must fill out our application and contract, which outlines several important conditions, the most critical being the requirement to return the animal to us if the adopter is unable to provide proper care in the future. Adoption fees vary based on sponsorships, the veterinary expenses incurred during the animal's treatment, transportation to the adopter, and any necessary quarantine due to state regulations.

Our organization is located in Eastern Kentucky, specifically in Pike, Floyd, Knott, Johnson, and Perry Counties. We provide animal transportation services throughout the Northeast, covering areas including Windham, New Hampshire; Spring Valley, New York; Hagerstown, Maryland; Allentown, Pennsylvania; Staunton, Virginia; Portland, Maine; and Plainfield, Connecticut.

Diamonds in the Ruff, Inc. is dedicated to collaborating with local high-kill shelters in Eastern Kentucky to rescue and rehome as many animals as possible, aiming to find them safe, forever homes. Our organization is committed to reducing the number of animals euthanized each year in rural shelters, where a lack of strict spay and neuter laws contributes to an overflow of pets. All the animals in our care are placed in foster homes, where they receive crate training and house training, as well as socialization with other animals and individuals of all ages.
