Adoption Process

Our adoption process includes several important steps to ensure the well-being of our animals. We require a veterinary reference, a personal reference, and a home check for all potential adopters. Interested individuals must visit the animal multiple times to establish a strong bond and complete a basic obedience or behavioral class before finalizing the adoption. Our rescue sanctuary is dedicated to animals that have experienced abuse, neglect, abandonment, behavioral challenges, special needs, or are senior animals. All dogs in our care have received training and are thriving. These additional requirements are designed to facilitate a smooth transition for both the animal and the adopter. The training is primarily aimed at helping the humans. The adoption fee is $150, which supports our efforts to establish partnerships and negotiate discounts with veterinarians, as well as our outreach to organizations like Ally Cats for TNR resources. We utilize JotForms for our foster, volunteer, and adoption applications.

Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope in Galesburg, IL

Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope is a volunteer-driven, foster-based rescue sanctuary located in Galesburg, Illinois. Our organization is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, training, educating, and finding permanent homes for lost and stray animals. The mission of Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope (SSOH) is to address the needs of neglected, abused, abandoned, and unwanted companion animals at risk of euthanasia and homelessness across the country. We are committed to providing immediate transport, veterinary care, and shelter for these animals, offering safe and nurturing foster homes where they can heal both mentally and physically until they are placed in permanent homes through our adoption screening process. We aim to promote the importance of proper care, consistent vaccinations, and spaying and neutering of domesticated animals to help reduce the growing population of dogs and cats, which places an increasing burden on government-run animal shelters. Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope is a nonprofit, no-kill animal welfare organization operating exclusively for educational and charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, or any future corresponding federal tax code. Our board is comprised of dedicated individuals with a unique blend of passion, talent, and skills. The team includes President and Founder Jen Wilson, who also serves as a Humane Investigator; Vice President and Animal Control Officer Josh Miller; and Treasurer/Secretary Jeanette Moon, who is also the Executive Administrator for McDonough County dispatch. In recognition of our efforts, we were awarded the Missing Animal Response Network (MARN) Scholarship from Petco Love Lost, beginning in June 2021. We require all volunteers to be certified on our lost dog recovery and TNR (trap-neuter-return) trapping teams.
