Adoption Process

All prospective adopters must complete an adoption application before meeting any animals available for adoption. This application will be reviewed by our staff during your visit. You can find KCAC's adoption application, liability waiver, and adoption policy on our website. Adoption fees are as follows: - Dogs: $200 - Cats: $100 When you adopt an animal from KCAC, it will come with several important services and documentation. All adopted animals are neutered, microchipped, and undergo both a behavioral and medical examination by our veterinarian. They also receive a series of vaccines, medications, and blood tests, which include: For dogs: DHLPP distemper vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm screening, deworming, and fecal exam. For cats: FVRCP distemper vaccine, feline leukemia test, feline immunodeficiency virus test, deworming, and fecal exam. Animals four months or older will also receive a current rabies vaccine, a tag, and a vaccination certificate. If you adopt an animal under four months old, we will arrange an appointment for their rabies vaccination once they reach the appropriate age. All adopted animals come with a complete medical history from KCAC, including a rabies vaccination certificate. Dogs will be provided with a collar and leash of the correct size, while cats will receive a cardboard carrier for transport. For more information, please call KCAC at 630-232-3555 and ask to speak with a member of our shelter staff.
