Good Shepherd Animal Sanctuary in Rockford, IL

We are a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and operate on a foster home basis. Our board members bring a wealth of experience in animal care, including backgrounds as groomers, trainers, and dog owners, along with prior involvement in a no-kill shelter. We came together to address the shortage of manpower and shelters in our area, aiming to rescue animals from unnecessary euthanasia and loss of homes due to the current economic climate. While we strive to make a significant impact in our community, our capacity to help is limited by the availability of foster homes. We are continually seeking more foster families to expand the number of dogs we can assist.

Adoption process

The adoption process consists of three steps, including a home visit where we bring the animal up for adoption to meet all family members and any existing pets. Current pets must be spayed or neutered, and adopters should have no history of surrendering a family pet in the past ten years or any record of animal abuse. Adopted dogs must be kept indoors. Additionally, adopters must demonstrate financial capability to care for the animal, and their existing pets must be up to date on vaccinations. Local and county ordinances must also be followed.

Service area: We serve Winnebago, Belvidere, and the surrounding areas. Home visits are a requirement for our adoption process, so we ask that potential adopters reside within a one-hour radius of Rockford, Illinois.
