Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the submission of an adoption application. Once the application is approved, a home visit is scheduled. After receiving full approval, the animal is brought to the new home to acclimate to the environment. During this visit, we provide education on dog care, including topics such as heartworm prevention, training, general care, and vaccinations. At this time, the adopter will also sign our adoption contract.

DogGone Shelter Intervention in Latta, SC

Our story began with a visit to the local shelter in Marion, SC, which had recently suffered from severe flooding, transforming it into a less than ideal environment for homeless animals. The sight of despair in the eyes of the animals and the overcrowded conditions, with dogs crammed into stacked crates, compelled us to take action. We decided to start fostering for the shelter to help alleviate their plight. Our first foster was Raphael, an elderly shepherd who had spent over a year at the shelter, enduring harsh winters and sweltering summers. He watched as countless other animals were adopted, while he remained overlooked. Raphael needed a place to recover from surgery due to his bad hips. When a rescue stepped in to save him, we welcomed him into our home and hearts. We took him to the vet, administered his medication, and affectionately nicknamed him RaRa. He found comfort sleeping at our feet and enjoyed basking in the sunshine. Unfortunately, the vet later informed us that his condition was too severe for surgery, and he was growing weaker. After saying our final goodbyes to RaRa, we felt a profound obligation to help other animals like him find their second chances. We recognized that many pets are left behind by their owners, leading to their gradual decline. RaRa's story became a catalyst for our commitment to advocate for these vulnerable animals. Since losing our first foster, we have dedicated ourselves to helping animals in need. Although RaRa has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, his memory and the impact he made on our lives continue to inspire our work as rescuers, and we are grateful for the time we had with him.
