Help Save Pets

Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with all potential adopters completing an adoption application. Once an animal is placed with an adoptive family, a signed adoption contract is required to ensure the future well-being of the new pet. Healing Hearts Small Animal Rescue, Inc. also requests an adoption donation with each adoption to help cover the costs associated with rescuing, vetting, caring for, and placing these animals. Adoption donations may vary, with some being higher due to necessary treatments such as heartworm treatment. To sustain our rescue efforts, it is essential to recoup a portion of these expenses through adoption donations, which typically range from $125 to $200.

Healing Hearts Small Animal Rescue, Inc. in Old Fort , NC

Healing Hearts Small Animal Rescue, Inc. is a nonprofit organization recognized under section 501(c)(3). Established nearly 17 years ago, we incorporated in 2004 and received our nonprofit status from the IRS in 2007. Our focus is on the rescue and rehabilitation of small mammals, such as hamsters, gerbils, and ferrets, as well as birds, reptiles, small exotic animals like sugar gliders and hedgehogs, small dogs, and a limited number of cats. In the past two years, we have expanded our efforts to assist other rescues and shelters with dogs rescued from puppy mills. We particularly aim to help those puppy mill dogs that are less likely to be adopted due to health or socialization challenges, rehabilitating them so they can find new homes. Our organization operates entirely on donations and fundraising efforts. We do not employ any paid staff; therefore, all contributions directly support the food, medication, and veterinary care needed for our rescued animals.
