Adoption Process

The adoption process requires the applicant to complete an application form. Additionally, the applicant must provide veterinary and reference information. A home inspection must be successfully passed by the applicant. Upon adoption, the applicant is required to sign a contract. Adoption fees vary based on the age of the dog.

Doxie Acre in Germanton, NC

Doxie Acre was established in January 2003 with the mission of rescuing dachshunds and dachshund mixes that are in desperate need of assistance. All dogs taken into our care receive comprehensive veterinary services, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations, heartworm tests, dental care, and any additional treatments recommended by our veterinarian. We are committed to investing the necessary resources to ensure the well-being of each dog. Once a dog has completed its veterinary care and any health issues have been resolved, it becomes available for adoption. We carefully match each dog with a suitable home through a thorough application process. Importantly, any dog we adopt out is always welcome to return to our rescue if needed. Our journey began 14 years ago when we adopted our first dachshund, and it was an instant connection. We were taken aback to discover that even small dogs like dachshunds are often abandoned. Through conversations and research, we recognized the urgent need to help as many as we can.
