Adoption Process

The adoption fee for dogs is $175 and for cats, it is $75. Interested adopters must submit an application to adopt a pet. Same-day adoptions are generally not permitted, except in cases where an individual has traveled a significant distance. Once approved, the adopter will sign an adoption contract and pay the associated adoption fee. Additionally, renters are required to provide documentation from their landlord confirming that they are allowed to have a pet.

Great River Rescue is a private nonprofit organization recognized as a 501(c)(3), established in 1977. We operate as a no-kill animal shelter, focusing on rescuing stray and unwanted companion animals. Our commitment is to provide quality care for these animals until we can find them suitable homes. All animals are spayed or neutered before adoption. Our goal is to reduce pet overpopulation and eliminate unnecessary euthanasia. Our mission is to serve the best interests of the animals we protect.
