SPCA Florida is a humane society located in Lakeland, Florida, within Polk County, where 8 other animal shelters or rescues also operate. Founded in 1979, it is an independent, no-kill non-profit dedicated to eliminating animal suffering and engaging the entire community in animal welfare, caring for more than 4,000 homeless animals throughout the community and the state each year. Situated about 30 miles west of Tampa, the organization also runs the Florida SARC disaster response division for companion animals during emergencies. General hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the shelter closed on Sundays.

Adoption process
Walk-ins are welcome (no appointment needed) on a first-come, first-served basis; after choosing a pet you complete an Adoption Application reviewed by an adoption counselor, and adopters must be 18+ with valid photo ID; already-sterilized pets can go home the same day, while others go home the day after surgery.
