Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) is a rescue organization located in Fresno, California, in Fresno County, about 4 miles southwest of downtown Fresno, where 16 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. Founded in 1998 by a group of community members dedicated to giving homeless dogs a chance at finding a forever home, ARF started out of a small facility on Belmont Avenue and Highway 99 before moving to its current location on Dakota Avenue in 2005. ARF is volunteer-managed and operated, focuses on dog rescue and adoption, and is open by appointment only, with regular hours Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Friday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Adoptions begin with an approved application, and the organization relies on donations, needed supplies, and merchandise sales to support its ongoing rescue efforts.
