Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with filling out the adoption questionnaire provided below and submitting it to us. After we review and approve your application, we will contact you to arrange a "Meet & Greet." Many of our dogs are in private foster homes, so it is necessary to schedule a one-on-one appointment for each individual dog. While these appointments can take time to arrange, we also host weekly adoption events at local Petco locations where we showcase dogs available for adoption. We can coordinate with the foster caregivers to bring the dog to the Petco event, making it a convenient option for scheduling a "Meet & Greet." These events typically take place on Saturdays or Sundays. When attending a "Meet & Greet," please bring any family members and other dogs to assess how the initial introduction goes, as this can facilitate a smoother transition for the dog into your home. If your "Meet & Greet" is successful, you will complete an adoption contract during your appointment and can take the dog home immediately. We request a suggested adoption donation to help cover costs such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, medical treatment, food, and supplies. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Baja Dog Rescue ensures that all donations directly support the care of our dogs and are fully tax-deductible. Please note that the suggested adoption donations only partially cover the expenses involved in the care and adoption process. In the event that the adoption does not work out, we have a lifetime return policy for our dogs, as we prefer not to see them returned to a shelter. The application process is designed to help prevent such situations, so it is crucial to answer the questions honestly. Not all dogs are compatible with every situation, making it essential to be forthright during the application process to ensure the right match. It is also important to be fully committed to adopting a dog, whether a puppy or an adult. Keep in mind that it can take approximately 72 hours for a dog to adjust to a new environment, and a lot depends on the dog's previous experiences. Therefore, the decision to adopt should be carefully considered, and the commitment should be taken seriously.
