The Humane Society of Weld County is located in Evans, Colorado, about 25 miles northwest of Fort Collins, and is one of 10 animal shelters and rescues serving Weld County. Founded in 1961, it moved into its current facility in September 1999 and is the only 501(c)(3) non-profit animal shelter in the county. The shelter cares for more than 4,000 homeless and unwanted pets each year, primarily dogs and cats, along with rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs, though it is unable to house injured wildlife or farm animals. Its mission centers on promoting the humane treatment of animals through care, advocacy, and education, with a focus on adopting out healthy, behaviorally sound animals to the community.
