Adoption Process

Adoption fees differ based on various factors, and standard fees can be found on our website. Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption application, and a home inspection may be necessary. Each adoption includes spaying or neutering and a microchip for the pet.

The Humane Society of Fremont County is an independent non-profit organization. Our shelter operates as an open-admission facility, offering animal services to Fremont County and Custer County in Colorado, as well as to the cities of Canon City and Florence, and the towns of Williamsburg, Rockvale, and Coal Creek. We are not affiliated with the Fremont County government or the city of Cañon City, nor do we receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States. As an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) corporation, we are governed by a board of directors.
