Adoption Process
To qualify for adopting a horse, applicants must meet the following criteria: Applicants should already own a horse, ideally one that is at least five years old. The horse must be kept on the applicant's own property. Additionally, applicants must be at least 18 years of age. A suitable shelter, such as a barn or lean-to, along with safe and appropriate fencing (board or wire mesh is acceptable, but not barbed wire) and a sufficient supply of water and feed are required. It is also necessary to have a method to prevent water from freezing during winter months. Adoptive owners must provide the names, phone numbers, and addresses of their veterinarian, farrier, and an individual who will care for the horse in the owner's absence. A representative from Dreamchaser Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation (DPMU) may conduct periodic checks on the adopted horse for its lifetime. The adoptive owner agrees to submit an annual DPMU Adoption Update Form regarding the horse until DPMU determines that this is no longer required. DPMU aims to place each horse in the most suitable home that meets its needs. Adoption fees are based on the costs incurred by DPMU for procuring the horse, as well as veterinary and shipping expenses. Any horse adopted from DPMU cannot be relocated, leased, or loaned to another person without prior approval from DPMU. DPMU retains the right of first refusal if the adoptive owner is unable or unwilling to provide proper care for the horse. Dreamchaser Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation does not guarantee any animal's disposition or training. The horses typically arrive in our care young and untrained, and their temperament may improve with proper care. Each adoption includes a comprehensive file on the horse, detailing its background, veterinary history, and observations regarding its disposition and training while in our care. If you have questions about your eligibility, especially if your living situation does not meet all preliminary criteria, please contact our office. Dreamchaser Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation in Falcon, MO
Dreamchaser was established to rescue mares and foals that have been discarded by the pharmaceutical industry. Since our founding, we have expanded our efforts to include rescuing horses from feedlots, abuse, and abandonment. Over the past several years, we have taken in numerous horses, gentling and training more than one hundred from the pharmaceutical industry, as well as eighty horses that were victims of abuse, abandonment, or found in feedlots. Most of the horses we receive are completely wild and have had no prior human interaction. We are one of the few facilities capable of gentling and training wild horses, relying on common sense, time, gentleness, and patience. On average, a rescued horse stays with us for about a year. Our primary mission is to rescue and/or purchase these animals, providing them with housing, nourishment, and gentling, with the ultimate goal of placing them into caring, permanent homes through our adoption program.
