About this shelter

Humane Society of Portage County in Plover, WI

Our mission, established in 1969, is to prevent cruelty, abuse, neglect, and overpopulation of companion animals. We strive to facilitate the adoption of these animals into suitable homes while promoting humane awareness and respect for all living beings, thereby contributing to the development of a better community. We are contracted by Portage County to offer Humane Officer services and to manage the intake and care of all domestic animals. Our team consists of five humane officers. Additionally, we offer educational programs to schools focusing on dog safety and various pet-related topics.

Adopting from Humane Society of Portage County

Adoption process

To begin the adoption process, applicants must complete an application, which can be submitted either on paper or through our website. Once the application is received, our adoption team will review it and arrange a date and time for a visit. During this visit, potential adopters will meet the animal and hopefully form a connection. If an adopter decides to proceed, an adoption contract will be finalized. Adoption fees depend on the species and age of the animal. Working cats are available at no cost. The second cat adopted is always free, while the fee for the first cat ranges from $45 to $75, depending on the season and age of the animal.
