Adoption Process

Applicants must complete a full adoption application (mailed or emailed), may undergo a home visit and reference check, and all household members must attend an in-person interview/meeting with the dog before adoption is approved; a minimum adoption fee ($275-$650) applies.

Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue Sanctuary in Delray, WV

Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization located in Delray, West Virginia, in Hampshire County, about 60 miles northeast of Hagerstown, MD—one of three animal shelters/rescues in the county, including two others nearby. Operating under the motto "Where Old Gold Shines," the sanctuary has been saving Golden Retrievers since 2002, taking in orphan dogs as space and finances allow. It offers both adoptable dogs seeking permanent homes and lifelong sanctuary care for residents who are too old, sick, or damaged to be placed in a family environment, and adoptions are by appointment only for approved applicants. The rescue relies heavily on donations and wish-list contributions to cover veterinary care, food, and other expenses for the dogs in its care.
