The Windham County Humane Society is located at 916 West River Road (Route 30) in Brattleboro, Vermont, roughly 45 miles north of Rutland, and is one of two animal shelters serving Windham County. WCHS aids and saves over 1,500 dogs, cats, and small pets each year through adoption, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost wellness and vaccine clinics, community cat (TNR) services, and pet care assistance programs. The shelter also runs foster care and volunteer programs, including youth involvement through its Pet Crusaders program, and offers wildlife concern resources and support for pet owners facing financial hardship. As a humane society, WCHS combines animal welfare, adoption, and community outreach services for Windham County residents and their pets.

Adoption process
Visit the shelter during open adoption hours (Tuesday–Sunday, 12–4 p.m.) to meet the animal in person, optionally place a 24‑hour hold for a $50 non‑refundable fee, then sign an adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee before taking your pet home; adopters must be 18 or older.
