Adoption Process
We are thrilled that you are considering adopting from the Nashville Humane Association. Our facility is located at 213 Oceola Avenue in West Nashville, near the intersection of White Bridge Road and Charlotte Pike. We are open from 10 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, and we are closed on Mondays. Please note that we also close every Tuesday to Thursday from 12 PM to 1 PM for "Quiet Hour." The adoption process typically takes about an hour, and all adoptions must be finalized on-site at the shelter, so please plan your visit accordingly. To adopt from us, you must meet the following requirements: - Be at least 18 years old - Provide a picture ID that shows your current address - Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord, if applicable - Be prepared to invest time and money in training, medical treatment, and proper care for your pet It is important to note that the Nashville Humane Association reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone. No animal will be adopted to individuals who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on their application. As Nashville's favorite shelter, we successfully place thousands of pets in loving homes each year. You can visit our facility and adopt on the same day. The adoption process consists of the following steps: 1. View Available Pets You can browse through our website to learn about the pets currently available for adoption. Our adoption pages are updated every hour, ensuring that you see the most current information about our adoptable dogs and cats. 2. Visit the Shelter When you are ready to start the adoption process or want to meet specific pets, please come to our shelter during our open hours. We are located at 213 Oceola Avenue and are open from 10 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. Remember to allocate about an hour for the adoption process. 3. Meet Our Pets If a pet is listed on our website as "Available in Foster," they are currently in a foster home. To learn more or schedule a meet-and-greet, please contact our Pet Services Team at [email protected]. Pets marked as "Available In Shelter" can be met and interacted with during your visit to the shelter. 4. Complete the Adoption Application After visiting the shelter and spending time with the pets, if you and our adoption counselors agree that a match has been made, you can proceed with the adoption. You will need to fill out an adoption application at the shelter, or you may complete it online in advance to save time (please note that submitting an application online does not reserve a pet for you). A member of our Pet Services team will review your application. Once approved, you will complete the payment of the adoption fee and sign our adoption contract. After that, you and your new companion will be ready to start your journey together.

Nashville Humane Association in Nashville, TN
Our Mission Since 1946, the Nashville Humane Association (NHA) has served as a safe haven for at-risk, homeless, and adoptable pets. Our dedicated team consists of nearly 60 staff and board members, along with hundreds of fosters, contributors, volunteers, and active supporters, all focused on our mission of saving lives. NHA is committed to finding responsible homes for pets, controlling pet overpopulation, and promoting the humane treatment of animals. We also provide essential support for pets and their families within our community. About Us As a completely gift-based nonprofit organization, the Nashville Humane Association relies on contributions from supporters to carry out our vital work in protecting homeless, adoptable, and at-risk pets in Nashville, throughout middle Tennessee, and beyond. We have been committed to this mission for many years. The impactful work we do daily for pets and their families would not be possible without your support. Unlike government agencies or large national organizations, we are a small, local shelter devoted to saving lives. Your contributions enable us to rescue pets from hoarding situations, neglect and abuse, and puppy mills. Your support also allows us to provide disaster relief and to assist both urban and rural animal shelters and rescues. Thanks to your generosity, we save thousands of lives each year, maintaining a 99% save rate. Recognized as Nashville's "Favorite Place to Adopt" year after year, we are also celebrated for our charity events and award-winning programs. We do all of this for you, as your neighborhood shelter. We are the Nashville Humane Association.
