Adoption Process

All potential adopters are required to complete an application to help us assess whether they will be a suitable match for one of our animals. For dogs and certain cats, a home visit is mandatory. Each adopter must also complete and sign an adoption contract, which includes a commitment to allow us to check in on the animal as needed, not to declaw cats, and to ensure the animal receives annual veterinary care and any necessary medical attention. If an adopter is ever unable to care for the animal as specified in the agreement, they must agree to return the animal to FFAS. Additionally, there is an adoption fee that varies: $105 for cats, $180 for dogs, and $250 for puppies. This fee covers all medical expenses incurred while the animal is in our care, including tests, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, heartworm treatment, and ringworm treatment.

Service Areas

The service areas include the Nashville metropolitan area, as well as Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Madison, Tennessee.

Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary in Hendersonville, TN

FFAS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abused, abandoned, and neglected animals in the Middle Tennessee area. We promote responsible pet care and advocate for spaying and neutering to address pet overpopulation. Currently, we utilize a network of foster homes to care for all the animals in our program. Our commitment to the long-term care and placement of every animal means we do not use euthanasia as a method of population control, which affects our intake capacity based on the number of adoptions. Founded in 1999 in Robertson County by a group of compassionate individuals who recognized the need for such a program, Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary has since expanded into Davidson and Sumner counties. Over the years, we have achieved numerous milestones that have established FFAS as a leader in combating pet overpopulation in our region. Our organization operates with an all-volunteer board and staff dedicated to rescuing as many animals as possible. Through our partnership with PetSmart, we provide opportunities for the public to adopt animals, with cats available for adoption year-round at the Rivergate PetSmart location and dogs showcased on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Our future goals include fundraising efforts to establish our own adoption center and acquire land for a dedicated sanctuary. In the United States, approximately 5 million animals are euthanized each year due to overpopulation. FFAS strongly advocates for the spaying and neutering of all companion animals to prevent this tragedy. All animals adopted from FFAS are altered prior to adoption, and any puppies or kittens taken in by our organization must have their mother spayed. Additionally, FFAS sponsors the Spay Station of Wilson County Humane Association, a mobile spay/neuter unit that provides low-cost or free services to low-income individuals and those on government assistance throughout Middle Tennessee.
