Dogs for the Deaf, now known as Dogs for Better Lives, is based in Central Point, Oregon, in Jackson County, roughly 110 miles north of Eugene, OR, where 8 other animal shelters or rescues also operate. Founded in 1977, it is the oldest provider of Hearing Assistance Dogs in the U.S. and trains dogs sourced through partnerships with breeders, co-ops, shelters, and rescues to become Service Dogs. The organization professionally trains and places Hearing Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, and Facility Dogs at no cost to clients, maintaining a lifelong commitment to every dog it rescues or breeds and to the people it serves.
